Continuing string of spoilers.
Updated my stats and permissions again. I talked to someone who was playing the game to confirm some things.
This essay still stands.
The only difference is that Ventus/Roxas is NOT a clone (which is a bit of a relief, actually—it didn't really make sense even for Kingdom Hearts) but was once an original boy. He linked up his heart with Sora's in order to be able to wake up again, and that linking made him lose his memories of his past life. When he linked up again (which happens at the end of BBS), he loses his memories once more, which explains why Roxas doesn't have any memories of Sora or even of his past life as Ventus. All that changes is that the hints toward Roxas having a heart are just because he always had his own heart and he just went to sleep with Sora because it was nice.
It ... actually adds up rather nicely. It makes sense for why Roxas can do things in the darkness while clearly being an individual of light (because Ventus absorbed his darkness back). Mind you, there is the possibility that this information is wrong, but getting it from a legit person who can read Japanese is different from forums.
